Since I've got the rolling chassis on my Merc I've noticed the suspension is really tough, like there's no 'give' in them. I've been looking at swapping the leaf springs for the super soft RC4WD ones to give a smoother ride. As its very tough and kind of waddles side to side over bumps. How do you guys tackle this?

I've ordered the oil shocks from ebay £13 + p&p a pair wasn't bad. I'm guesiing the softer leaf springs will give more suspension travel and less bouncing in the suspension too. I really appreciate the replies & help

Some of the guys that build the trucks to haul working trailers like dumps or belt trailers need the heavy suspension . Another option is Russ's airride suspension and don't put any springs in the airbags. You will want heavy spring if you plan on hauling

I have found over time my leaf packs have softened to a degree as they have been used

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'll try them out and report back on the results. Might just sit tonight and flex the leafs in my hand for a bit and see if there's any change.
Thanks again ! |

Just had a look at the suspension setup, I was thinking of possibly drilling out the rivit holding the leafs together and see what works better. If im going to use oil shocks and they soften over time it could be one of those just give it a try and see

Given enough time, the springs will break in. Your truck is just a rolling chassis right now. There will be more weight riding on the springs, once you finish it up and get all the other components, electronics, and a battery pack onboard. Don't worry about the stiffness just yet. The more you drive the truck, the softer the springs will get too. Trust me. The Tamiya High-Lift is the exact same way.

I must admit I sold my High-Lift a few years back as it was exactly the same. I'm just taking a few photos just to confirm I've got it right. I was worried about the lack of travel available.
Thanks for the reply! |
