What is the correct spec for a little volume control pot? 7 watt amp to 8ohm speaker. Tried 1k-100K ohms but little or no adjustment.. I thought lower ohms but maybe 500K ohms to allow a gradual volume control? Thanks! Tom

Fyi..just found that the pot ohms really differ if you are trying to put a volume adjuster before or after an amp. Before it might be 10 k ohms and after from amp to a 8 ohm speaker maybe 10-20 ohms.

our ears respond to sound pressure in a logarithmic way so volume pots are not linear types ie half of travel give half the pot value but log pots or non linear pots. You buy both types quite easily. The volume controls the gain(output/input) of the amp, adding resistance to the speaker load to control volume is crude and not recommended.
