I am looking for a cheap controller to control a 6v mini motor. The only ones i can find are standard rc esc's but i think at the price of them they are abit overkill for the small motors i am using.
I was hoping to find something smaller and cheaper if possible but i'm not having much luck If anyone has any suggestions that would be great |

Ric has some mini esc's for around 40 bucks. not exactly cheap but they work well, i have one set up on a small gear motor for the tarp on my trailer.

I've used this controller for all kinds of small brushed motors. Rated for five amps. Never had a problem so far.

If the motor is really small you can use the control board out of a busted servo. Thats how I control the lift motor on my forklift

cheers for the replies.
I like the idea of using an old servo i've tried the motor with it and works fine with no load but not sure how it will work when its in the model with a load on it. Is there a way to loose the potentiometer from the cicuit |

You can take out the potentiometer if you've got two 2.2k resistors, Put the resistors end to end , solder the middle wire from the pot to the center, and and end wire from the pot to each end of a resistor. They hold uP to moderate load I used to use them alot for robotics. Nice thing is if it does fry they are cheap and easy to come by

well the resistors are ordered does this trick work on all servo's I've just purchased some small servos which will hopefully be converted to screw drives to raise and lower the blade of the dozer

It has on any I've tried. Basically the pot in the servo tells the controller where the output is in relation the position you want. The pot just sends an analog value to the controller. By using the two resistors the center wire is located dead center of the total resistance value so the servo board assumes the servo is centered. Then when u move a stick on your radio in either direction the controller will turn the motor trying to get the resistance it sees to change ( which it can't).
I've also used small 5kohm pots soldered in as well for fine tuning Hope all that made sense lol I'm poor at explaining things sometimes! |

yes i get what you mean. Did you put the 5k resistor between the centre wire and the middle of the two other resistors

No the times I used the small pots I just soldered it in place of te one out of the servo then hot glued it to the servo board. 99% of the time I've just used the two 2.2k resistors
