Default Truck & Open Racecar Trailer

Last summer a RC friend was kind enough to contact me about a possible display trailer for sale (He knows how much of a geek I am about having things look as close to realistic as possible). He sent me a few quick photos and I was drooling from that point on....

The trailer was made to display a dirt oval car but any 1/10 scale fits perfectly into the rails. It is hand made out of aluminum tubes and drilled/tapped for connecting screws, this was a huge plus as I worked my magic on rebuild it from scratch. The front box/tire rack is made out of aluminum sheets and has the correct look of a saturday night trailer that can be seen at any local short track, the beaver tail is what makes this stand out in my mind.

As you can see from the below photos, it was a great start but it needed some TLC to take it to the next notch. My end goal is to have a working trailer/ hauler but still have a great display piece at home during my oval season.

Here are the pics of the trailer when I received it...

So after thinking about what I really wanted to do for the trailer, here is the list that I had.

• Repaint the front box to match a Ferrari Red and get rid of all the extra white showing
• Repaint the gloss black and paint the rails a flat black on the top/bottom
• Place grip tape along each rail to help guide the car when loading/unloading.
• Scuff and clear coat all exposed aluminum tubes.
• Paint the doors of the box and make handles.
• Make Iowa plates and make it very realistic.
• Re Drill axle holes to align better and make new spacers.
• Find matching tires/wheels.
• Reflective safety tape.
• Mount a temporary front wheel for display
• Find extra wheels for the front box
• Possible brake lights? Not working.

Here is what it looked like after doing all of these items...

So now for step 3 (of 4), I realized that I needed a bit more to make it over the top for sure.

• Working brake lights
• Running lights on the sides
• License plate light
• Trailer wheel chucks
• Racecar wheel chucks
• Mini top tool boxes for the front of each rail
• Ramps that fold up towards the trailer but are chained in place
• Mount a extra box on the front with a on/off switch for the trailer to be displayed with the lights on
• Engine hoist (Extra)
• Jack stands (Extra)
• Bungee cords (Extra)
• Pit Cart (Extra)

I am almost done with this section but here is a sneak peak, should be finished in the next week or so...

Well step 4 of 4 is all done (took the pics at 9 this morning so the sun is really bright). Just need to upload some pics of it during the night because the light rock (2 brake lights, 4 running lights, and 1 plate light).

Had a blast and also added a RC4WD winch with remote. Now to find a good tow vehicle and build a hitch/cup...

Here is the next part of my display, it is about 95% done but now I am just waiting for my decal guy to give me the finishing touches for the truck.

•Truck is a Tamiya 1850L Delivery Truck, it is rear wheel-drive, 3 gear tranny, working lights, and backup beeper so you don't run over those people in the pits.

•The addition to the trailer is new chains along with new hooks, rc4wd hook and lunette ring, revised front crank, reworked the wiring and new rear spot lights for working in the pits.

Once I put the decals on the truck I am calling it complete (well until I find something else to add)...

This was a build that I did over the past year, I was posting it to another forum but that was until I found this one! Only thing left to do is add the decals to the truck.

Sorry for the large photos in the last post...

Thanks,
Josh

Nice to see you over here. I was following this build before and it's a really nice setup. It looks really good behind the truck.

you do nice work.

i do have one question. i know its a model but, wouldn't the bearings (the center of the wheels) get buggered up from the bouncing wile going down the road? i have seen other race trailers with tires up top and they were between the rods (on the rubber). less wear on the center of the wheels.
hope you dont mind the question.

Thanks guys! This forum has shown me how detailed you guys are with your rigs and hopefully I can keep improving on my skills (newbie here!).

Tamiya, I used your 1850 build as a great reference to build mine.

Skip, you have a keen eye! The correct way to carry the wheels would be to have 2 bars running under each row of tires and then use the bar that I have as a locking device. I thought about this and I plan on using different sized tires (foam and rubber) so I just used one center mounted bar.

Thanks again for looking.

Question for all of you truck experts....I am wanting to add a guard to the front of my 1850L in this build and I found this...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221113566474...84.m1438.l2649

It is for the Scania and I know that I might have to put two new holes on the front but otherwise would it work (width wise)?

Thanks!
Josh

Wow, that's a really nice trailer. The details are great. Loading lights, tail lights, tire rack, the license plate. All of it looks great! The tow rig is really nice as well. Everything matches. Gotta love that.

May i suggest the following for a bullbar for the 1850 truck?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ALLOY-ANI...item5d37c0e017
I have used their bullbars on a lot of builds and upgrades I have done for people and find their prices to be very good along with their quality and service.

You did a fantastic job, and your attention to detail is great, Your trailer is very realistic, and it looks good behind the merc. Great work, job well done.
