Default 50's Vintage T-24 Crane Truck W/Clam Shell

If you train your kid's right this is what you get. My daughter was visiting a friend in a little town in mid-Michigan and found this in an antique store. I haven't seen it yet beyond the photos. She won't be home from school until Thanksgiving.

I would like to convert it to R/C eventually with out hacking it up any more than necessary.
Thanks for looking,
Kent

Nice find, your kid done good.

Looks like plenty of interior space for rc components.

Thanks Joe, it does appear that if I can get inside without doing damage that I should be able to make things fit. My biggest concern is driveline but until I get it in hand I won't be sure.
She actually called and asked if I wanted her to bring it home this weekend!

Given its covered body, maybe a Tamiya chassis would fit? A motor with a high reduction gearhead hooked directly to the driveshaft/diffs to keep a low profile chassis.

Kent,

That looks exactly like the one I found a few months ago! Mine does not have the extra center boom section. I have not studied it too much yet and I'm sure when I convert mine I'll start with the crane and save the drivetrain for stage two.

I'll be very happy to let you lead this conversion!

Please take lots of good pictures and provide detail so I can coast when I do mine!

Jim

Thanks Jim, you will probably beat me to it. I wasn't expecting this and it wasn't even on my radar but since my daughter found it I wasn't going to pass it up! It's about 5 lines down on the project list!

Kent,

In one ofthephotos, the center boom section is white. Does it seem like it was an add on part or something? Wonder if I might find that part someplace?

I don't recall, do you have this in your hands now, or are you still just looking at pictures like me?

I do have it at the house now. I'm not sure where that section came from but it almost looks like Nylint made it. There is/was a company out there that made various conversions for this unit but they discontinued them. Here is the link to the company, They have a lot of interesting stuff! http://www.ccmodels.com/cranes-shovels-C-24-crane.shtml

Thanks for the link! With the truck mounted units like we have I know I'm going to want to order some stuf from them!
