I've attached an image from RC4wd excavator joystick layout. Is this pretty much the standard?? When they say "lower arm and upper arm" which is the lower and upper arm?

Or there is also SAE control pattern that uses the following:
* Left hand left = swing left. * Left hand right = swing right. * Left hand forward = dipper out away from operator. * Left hand back = dipper in toward operator. * Right hand left = bucket curl. * Right hand right = bucket uncurl. * Right hand forward = boom down. * Right hand back = boom up. |

SAE is how I have mine. Upper arm means boom, lower arm is stick or dipper as some call it.
Whatever your preference or however your brain is wired that works best for you, never mind standard patterns. ![]() ![]() Mario |

I feel always go with what seems easies or best for you. I have swapped things on my excavator, trucks, tractor and many mire to what works in my use and thinking patterns. This gives you the best chance at easy smooth opperation of equipment. I have even changed some 1:1 machines to suite my thinking.

Thanks all. I think I'm going to set mine as SAE because it's the same setup as a 1:1 CAT. That way if I ever use a 1:1 CAT, I will somewhat know how to operate it

I think you already have this figured out, but...
When I went to the Pike Steam Show last year I was hoping to get on the controls of Steve's big dragline and I indeed did get to run it a lot! But, I had my own dragline setup differently and it took me a while to adjust and the learning period makes you look a bit like a newbie. ![]() If you can predict running anyone else's machine in the future try and figure out who, where and setup yours the same way. I'd like to know how you guys run cranes, draglines, and cable excavators. i'm assuming kinda close to SAE Excavator since we aren't running all the extra clutch levers and brakes.
I don't want to have to unlearn too many bad habits if i run another machine. For now my plan was leaning toward: Left stick . . Left - Right = cab rotate / slew. push left = boom goes left . . Up - Down = not used (need to convert from throttle style) Right stick . . Left - Right = crowd/drag. Push left = pull toward cab . . Up - Down = hoist line. Not sure if i like 'pull up' or 'up is up' 3 pos Aux switch . . Boom angle. Up is up
