this was by far the toughest rebuild ive done. The machine is half CAT and half Kress. A 621G scraper converted into a pot hauler or ladle carrier.
a complete nightmare of hydraulic and electronic cross breeding, square peg in round hole as you can get!
the nightmare is almost over! road testing with operator and ladle tommorow.

It was not a fun rebuild. Probably because it was really out of my comfort zone. Fun at first but real happy it's done. A feather in the cap and time to move on!:D
I did, for a split second , think about Rc but in 1/14th scale, not a chance! No room for all the electronics, hydraulics and battery:eek:
Even if the rear frame could hold the battery.... This is not on my A list for future projects.:)

Another great paint pen to try out is made by prisma color. Being a graphic artist I've tried several and nothing comes close to there hues the application of the paints. And the tips of the markers hold up to abuse very well. Just my two cents.

Although my dump truck is a major part of the construction division it's still technically a truck so I figured I'd post some recent pics of it now that I have IHB wheels on it :D:cool: and just a few more upgrades to do such as a 4:1 GRU from Gardentrucking , a stronger steer servo to handle the BB filled front tires, a new front cross member so I can flush mount the front bumper and install the new China made sound unit with turbo ( Servonaut SMX knock off ) and she's done!
Oh yeah, still got to put company logos on the doors as the final touch.:D;)

Ya know Mario I think that truck is the best looking I've seen!! Reminds me of my car, black and chrome. The two best colors!! I'll vote for it for sure!!! I'm going to get the bb's back around and fill some tires too. Where did ya get the sound? I'm debating some sound cards in the equipment, only reason I haven't so far is they a pricey little buggers. Always have other holes to fill first. But sound for the dozer in in the works maybe.
You keepin up on excavator skills with that ground rubber?? I was thinking about some cat litter,,,,, clean unused, but if I don't cover it I'm sure it will have another employee think its a skat dumpster!!!

I never thought I'd do this. None of my electronics are waterproof , almost -20C outside , no idea how Lipos handle cold but my backyard path that leads to the tarp garage which constantly needs snow cleared ( nothing like the east coast, I feel for them) is a nice smooth, solid path to drive on!
Can you tell Im dying for spring to arrive? ... But from rc truck perspective , the snowbanks are as high as the east coast and spring may never come!

That is awesome!! Looks like out west after a heavy snow.
On the lipo thing, they don't like cold, they will be fine but might not preform well. Keep em warm inside before going out they will be fine. Actually best performance is around 100F. Just don't exceed 140F. But the chemistry of a lipo has a bit to do with it also, a fully charged lipo (cold) can damage itself if heated up as the internal chemistry will react with a warming battery and may overcharge itself, bad, that can cause fire. Not to alarm you but don't charge a frozen battery to full charge. Some people freez lipos for storage. I don't recommend that, just a cool dry place.

Adding a PMD 4:1 gru, high torq steer servo and metal horn, shape ways front cross member and a new sound unit.

Looking good Mario!
Thanks Reg. It's because of you this truck exists in the first place ;)
the pic with the 4:1 was just what I needed as I think I need to instal one of them, and wasn't sure on clearances, thanks.
There was some trimming and moving to make this fit RW. If your using the stock Tamiya cab floor plate, one of the webs has to be ground down to clear the gru. And the crossmember is now just a floater and slid back from the mounted position. If you zoom in on the right side fuel tank, you can just see where the holes for the mount are. Pretty much perpendicular to the front edge of fuel tank. That's one of the crossers I ran wires through!. And to remove the thing was just too much more of a tear down so I just slid it back, removed the fuel tank screws, drilled through the web of the crossmember and reinstalled the fuel tank screw to hold it in place.
Here's testing of the GRU using a stock Tamiya pinion gear , LRP truck puller3 motor and the 4:1
http://youtu.be/cOaePHjx6a8
And I got the wiring cleaned up a bit lastnight. Almost ready to throw the body back on. Most of the time I complain RX leads are too short but with all the long leads from the light and sound unit in this day cab it's a challenge to fit them somewhere. Lesson learned . Next time I'll cut to length.

:lol:like the old saying...." Pictures just don't do it justice, it looks better in person.;)
But then again, I was looking at Tamiya Cowboys hot iron build earlier and I'm just amazed at his clean, professional wiring job in the sleeper:jaw:
Even premacon or scale art don't do it that nice! :D
Anyway, all that matters.... The cab covers it nice and comes on and off real easy;):)

( still clean and guarded!) the speed is perfect, I have my dump geared down and it is really nice to be able to use the whole range of radio when in the dirt. Looks like you may need to build a sweeper head for the loader. Lol!!! The one project I got prior approval for was the sweater truck build (forget off hand who did that). Looking good Mario!!!! It's been awhile but I just started doing some maintenance on the black Pete today. I looked back in this thread and it was March 2013 when the cab was dropped on the truck one last time and done. Has not been off till now. Almost like opening up a time capsule of sorts. I look at my wiring nightmare, I see what I did then and I think about how I would do it now. Amazing how much we learn and change from the early days in the hobby:D
No issues, just want to inspect the tranny, gru and axles. I was new at this when I built it, all I used was the tamiya grease that came in the kits so it's time to re grease!
Also gives me the chance to add the new front bumper mount to bring the bumper back like the one in my dump truck.
Lots of miles on it, the wife and I walked our neighbourhood countless times , RC shows, backyard fun and all looks good !

Thanks for the kind words Craig. I appreciate it.:)
First of all, Steves wheels make the truck for sure. Along with Regs box and Rods visor of course! ;)
Second, very happy with the motor. I hesitated at first but remembered reading somewhere , quality motors aren't cheap! and the fact that it was a recommended match for the PMD 4:1 , I chose to buy and just use the stock pinion. Tons of power, a loaded truck weighs between 23-25lbs and I run around in 2 or 3rd. Running a 2200 ma lipo and a cheap China esc's ( that's going to change soon :) ) I get well over an hour run time.
Thirdly, :lol::lol::lol:
only thing I wish I did different would be a manual locking diff. I have the rear axle fully locked and when loaded needs a country mile to turn.:)
Definitely not a speed demon but it's perfect speed for the backyard. Here's a old vid showing speed ranges

Really switching things up in the shop today. i bought my tanker trailer about 4yrs ago and at the time all I did to it was cat mudflaps and the company logo on the sides. Was planning to install motorized legs, some marker lights , SS Tronix light kit. I have all that stuff but the project never got started and has sat on the shelf since.
For once my procrastination has paid off! :D. I've learned a lot about this hobby and have a lot more tools and materials since 4 yrs ago. Also picked up some sweet looking half round fenders made by Flatdeck a few years ago that I was going to use on the Izzy dump trailer but if there is one thing I didn't like on the tanker is the stock fenders.
So it's time! Finally going to customize and upgrade the tanker trailer and get this old project off the to do list once and for all! :):bounce:
Best part is, nothing to order and wait for. It's all been on a shelf for the last 3 1/2 yrs! :cop:

The tequila tanker is done! .....well, at least the lights and motorized legs are. The actual fluid hauling part will have to wait till a future winter build. who knows, might take another 3yrs before that happens
I'm real happy with results. I wanted to keep it simple and subtle. No room for light bezels along the top so just went with small holes just large enough for the LED tip. 6/64 drill bit and the lighting is just right. When lights off you can barely even see the holes so, I like.
Using a chunk of Coroplast I came up with a nice material to make a mounting plate for the SS Tronix gear. Slides in and out like a tray and also incorparated a way to secure the battery. Using a 3,000ma nimh battery is overkill but at least this way I should be good for the entire summer and it adds weight on the drives.:D
