Geeze, I'm gone for a day and the wheels come off pretty quickly around here:):cop:
Back to my shop name search....... I like the suggestions made for a few names but as I keep thinking about it I've come full circle and I'm right back where Rob started when he said Mario's mechanical.
Forget the catch phrase type name, going to keep it simple and maybe put my name up in lights with something like.........
" Mario's Truck & Diesel " ???
Heck, if I get tired of it, just gotta change it! :D

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words.

Looking at it right now and what it's become, I have no choice but to put a lift in! :D. But that will have to wait. The shop has to generate some revenue before the boss will spoil the mechanic with such a tool:cop:;)

Using the KW and Pete emblems was another spur of the moment thing. I've had a few spares tucked away and thought why have them in a container when I can display them as I store them.:) small dab of shoo goo and voila, my shop is a authorized Kenworth , peterbuilt , Tamiya and Cat repair shop.

The night shots..... Looks great in person, me like :)

So your S&M full service station will be a perfect place. All of us being there will be like a club meeting. So while we are playing at your full service gentlemans club named Marios S&M service center I'm sure we will all have a happy ending to our much anticipated summer trip!!! The floor is pretty shiny. Almost mirror like... I think there should be at least one brass pole installed for hanging "stuff" off of near the center of the shop and perhaps a swing. Oh, and a DJ booth in the corner. Who else is going to introduce the "staff" as they enter the floor for their shift:confused:. It's a good thing he didn't call it "Mario's Lube and Oil" or we would have all got the wrong idea about the place....

Well, the folding house is pretty much done. One more thing to add is interior lighting for that evening look. Besides the fact I made a major mistake when I layed out and cut the windows. I didn't realize I was working from the inside of the walls which made the outside complete opposite of the house I was trying to replicate! and the grey is too dark, the roof shouldn't be black.....otherwise, I'm real happy with the folding, quick simple assembly of it all and will probably look ok from 20ft away sitting in the backyard. :D

So earlier in the thread you mentioned you wanted to build a Tim Hortons coffee shop. Well you are going to need cups.

Forgot to post this last night. Did another video of the building and lights for it. I'm seeing an issue with one part of the build. The plywood base is made of 1/4" fir plywood. Since I cut the piece out of sheet on Friday and painted the edge, it's warping like crazy and the peg holes aren't lining up as easily. Need to rework the base.

Lol. I hear ya Kent :). I don't think wind will be an issue. I'm planning on some spikes through the floor and into the ground to keep in place but the yard is so sheltered by trees and bushes it's not very breezy there at all.
Here's what I mean, I've got that 12'X20' tarp garage back there and it is not anchored or held down by anything. Back in October we had a wicked wind storm like I'd never seen. Winds up over 60mph, trees down all over town, I thought, that garage is gone...... It didn't move an inch!
As an extra precaution so I don't have to look through the neighbourhood for the buildings I figure a tether cord to keep the building in the yard. If the roof blows off and disappears?.... That's ok, I got 5 bucks. I'll build another.

No patch is gonna fix that tire. super single, that can't be cheap:eek:

That reminds me of a story from work a few years ago. I was working at a underground gold mine that uses a ramp for access. All man vehicles were Toyota landcrusiers all beefed up and built tough.
A couple guys were heading down the ramp, speeding along of course when a 4ft pinch bar that was laying on the road was kicked up , came through the floor board, missed the drivers leg, popped the shifter out of gear and jammed into the centre of the seat!
Our Toyota service truck was equipped with the same kind of bar as in the incident. First thing I thought when I heard about it. Check and see if ours is missing!!! Thankfully it was on the truck. Anyway, what a freak incident that could've been much worse.

Call this building complete! I corrected the warping base issue with some wood strips around the edge. Kinda glad it happened because it now gives the house a foundation and gets the plywood up off the ground once in the backyard.
New height also meant I needed to make some stairs. I tried making out of wood but wasn't liking the look. Kept turning out like a grade 5 art class creation.
So once again I turned to my new found material for an answer and sure enough an idea came to me!

Since your into buildings and structures any thought to making some "under construction" so guys with flats can haul in building materials. Excavators can dig foundations, dumps can bring in or haul away dirt etc. etc., sorry just thinking out loud :D

Kent, no need for apologies and keep thinking out loud:) what a great idea! :bounce: gives me a great, simple idea!
I can make a building in panel sections , load on a trailer at the loading dock with my hobby engine crawler crane, haul to the build site where my tower crane can unload and assemble because I can use Finster's idea of using those small earth magnets to secure it.:bounce:

The first home I bought was a 12x60 mobile home. Mario got me thinking about building a model of it and I actually started planning it last week until I clued in that I would then need to build a specialized truck also. The plan went off the rails there and hasn't progressed any further yet. It would be pretty easy to throw together a truck like this though.

This was a happy but sad day for me. Lots of "good times" in that house.lol It would be kinda fun for me cruising around with this setup. Bring back some old memories.lol

Last fall I had this idea to create a steel plant / factory looking area in the park. Using nothing but stuff I find in the scrap bin at work I've collected a few things like mufflers, pipes, pre cleaner , accumulators, steel bins, etc.
The plan was to place it all in the area where the 12X20 tarp garage has been ( don't need it anymore and going to take it down). As I was raking the park yesterday I kept looking over at the mess of junk left by the previous owner. I have no idea what in the heck they used this stuff for. A bunch of concrete pillars anchored to big concrete slab bases??

A big job to bust up and haul this outta here and I had an idea to try and work with it. Going to try and use the pillars to look like smoke stacks and use this area to create a factory. Won't really serve a purpose but more just for looks as a backdrop for the open pit.
Still along way to go but just wanted to throw everything up and get some ideas. Not sure what I'm going to use or where, kinda looks crazy right now but gives an idea of what I'm up to.

Tell me what you think? :)

No problem asking and discussing customs questions guys. I would have answered yesterday but it was the only day the family could get together for Easter dinner. 14 of us in the house, we did something different this year, supper was Mexican style! Taco bowls, taco pies and all the fixings. :)

Anyway, as Mike mentioned, you need to contact US customs. Canada won't care what your bringing in, the issue is proving to your customs what your bringing back.
The last time we went to Indy ( prior to finding out I can't go anymore :( ) we brought our rigs to the customs office a few days before the trip and made a list of what we had. Customs wanted serial numbers on the radios written down and description and approximate value of items.
I would imagine the US customs has a website that will explain the rules for you guys which might be different than the Canadian rules?

Reg, keep that dirty word to yourself! Don't need that polar stuff anymore!
And yes, lots of beers consumed yesterday.... Need to get more. Lol

For our visit in August,, all the toys, radio gear ect,, all has been legally imported into us prior to final sale. All this stuff is personal property and not from a dealer/distributor. All items are not being imported as they are not for sale items or items purchased in foreign country upon returning to us. Am I wrong by thinking a simple declaration invoice of what said items are being transported for personal use are not subject to any concerns of sale or distribution. ? Any radio gear of question has fcc and associated compliance ID numbers printed on items. Personally I don't see a concern for personal non business visit with non commercial packaged not for sale RC toys. Again all our stuff was legally purchased inside us. Along with all fcc compliance information. I can see how Canadian border may tell us to wright down declaration slips to confirm origins of stuff upon returning into us. I've traveled to most of the Caribbean islands/Mexico (never with anything more than headphones or cell phone) and its more of a joke on the U.S. Customs side of things. Especially arriving at night, simple questions like how long you been gone, current address, and then a simple hand and stamp,,,, next,, but that's been air travel too. Mexico has always been shady, customs there steal stuff from you, candy bars, cigars, booze, and then just look at you like " yeah, what are you going to do about it?, have a nice trip home ,, next". But I want to do whatever we have to so I don't have a lengthy sit at a border and don't have to be leaving any of my stuff there. I did look into customs website but it was more for distribution or sale. Haven't found anything for personal use stuff. But might have to look into this radio stuff going on with the droan technology. Fcc and government are getting involved with having to register certain frequency devises or have liciens for them. I know some of the radios sold in U.S. Have frequencies or bandwidth (? Whatever it is) that you are supposed to have a radio license (ham) for. Again , I don't know so if someone does that will help us all out and make a easier crossing. Hopefully the mayor of Marios town doesn't call ahead and tell them no matter what let them back into the U.S., we don't want them anymore!!! ;).

My problem was coming back home I had no problem going to the US when I came to cross back they wanted proof that I didn't buy it in the US and bringing it home even though it as all made be me . They don't know that you crossed loaded they think and the guy told me we have know idea what you crossed with only when you come back we check and my truck was full of boxes . Hey an idea,, after watching a few of the European truck/equipment show I see they plant chia seeds or something like sprouts, fast growing little seedlings. Looks pretty cool with small plant life. Maybe play with the idea and a week or so befor the event plant some if it works. I've always wanted some small shrubs or plants but not much stuff out there that looks the scale size. I'll try and find one of those videos. Just an idea for you to think about. Not only are you now a building contractor you could be the city landscaping engineer!! Lol!!

I know what you mean RW. The yard is looking kinda barren and flat. Definitely needs some scale greenery. The video does give me some ideas. I like how they trimmed spruce tree branches to look like trees. Also reminds me of the moss we have growing in the bush around here I can use to look like cedar bushes around the house. :D:cool:
And Susan has a super green thumb and will fix me up I'm sure.:)

Senior Bo say........AWESOME........Can't wait to see all the trucks and equipment bring it to life. Where do you want bridges Mario ?

The main bridge I definitely need is to span this rooted area. I always wanted to run the road through here and have more free space around the screening plant. It's about 9-10ft distance I'm guessing. The road at the top of pic can be moved further out to allow the approach to the bridge and get over all the roots.
Could just fill it all in with dirt but a bridge would be much more fun.

Pics just don't show it right but here it is.

Hey Mario. What is the "official" name of the small town. Im starting woodworking the week after next, Building beams and bridges.
Do you mind if i steal a five pictures and do some sketches on them just to make sure we talk the same language sort of ? and i kind of want to know the level in hight from road to road and obstacle course.
I think i can drive the KH Beam Hauler most everywhere in you're town

Supermario
05-20-2016, 10:19 AM
I've been trying to think of a good name for a long time now. Came up with a few but none jump out and say that's it!
A friend suggested Foxville due to the fact there are 3 foxes that walk through and play in our yard almost on a daily basis so that's the name for now?
I'm thinking when everyone is here in August and we are all sitting around playing at 2 in the morning, somebody is going to blurt out the perfect name for the town.:)
By all means go ahead and play with pics. just to keep things simple I figure bridges just to span rough terrain and not actually high enough to drive under them? High elevation bridge means more room required to ramp the road up to them? No real height requirements just whatever works best for the bridge building. Looking at the lay of the land and largest root height I figure need about 3" of elevation atleast?
After watching how well your beam float maneuvers around, I agree you shouldn't have any problems getting around the majority of the yard.:D

Yeah, I've got all kinds of weeds and random grass patches that sprout up.i love the park and not complaining but it is a high maintenance set up trying to keep up with Mother Nature and the constant battle to re claim terrain.:cop:

I decided to take a break from working on Foxville and plastic buildings. Finally looked at the bruder dozer I have long enough and figured it was a good time to finally bring this one to life.
More plastic work but it was fun. Lots of room in these and the plastic is tough but easy to work with. Just tested yesterday for first time and results are good.:) with some operating practice I think I can get this to work real well as long as the tracks last that is.

With the dozer build completed, time to get back at working in Foxville. Town needs a industry to keep things rolling so the factory was next up for completion. :)

Yes, it's all just a bunch of scrap parts and backyard debris but even scrap has a story..... The steel bins used as the buildings for instance, those are actually from Australia! Whenever a underground mining truck is shipped from Aus, they discovered a lot of the valuable items like back up cameras were being easily removed and stolen enroute. To eliminate that, items are packed in a wooden crate which placed in the dump box and then covered and stich welded with these galvanized boxes.

So like always, nothing fancy with high exact details and functionality but I think overall it turned out alright. :)

The windows and catwalks are made out of a flourescent light fixture diffuser.:D once again, something laying around suddenly has a use.

Flaw #1 to having buildings in the backyard 24/7. Just had a good down pour and that sure makes things messy I'll tell ya.

Good news is, my little naturally growing trees are looking great! Almost time for a trimming, I'm thinking I might be able to keep them looking small through till August? ..... My backyard bonsai trees?
Steel plant is none the worse for wear, it's clean, almost too clean for a factory.

Some pics, and no wise cracks about the pink petals all over the place! I never knew one of the trees sheds them when I bought the place! they'll be gone for August no doubt! :cop:

Oh man, my wife and I just spent 5 1/2 hours pressure washing and scrubbing our house and shop! It wasn't quite that dirty but it was close. At least you can just carry those to the sink to wash them. Not sure how many times we went up and down ladders during our cleanup.

Anyway, today I finally completed one of the projects that originally got on to the stuff in the first place. 7 buildings later, I'm finally using to cover the loading docks. Actually, the trains ,figurines ,train station and 60ft of rail with a switch were brought by a forum member Mikem. Hey made a 9hr drive to join us. Also brought his 3 beautiful trucks including the Mack.
Within an hour he had it laid out and running from the pit to the pile.
I was instantly amazed at what an effect adding just a simple stretch of track and trains does for the yard! :jaw:

It's a done deal! I must have a train and Mike is gracious enough he's going to guide and help me out:D. I'm hooked!

Here's a video of everyone gathered in the yard.

https://youtu.be/gLqVcsgWQac

being the very first time doing something like this the turn out was perfect. I got a good feel for how well the yard does or doesn't function with all the traffic. ( IE , light pole incident. Which was absolutely not staged. He did it, we froze the scene and then brought in the cops and driver. )
Learned a lot for next year and got all kinds of great ideas from everyone:) I'm gonna be busy.:D

Too much speed, distracted drivers, and/or inexperienced operators are to blame. Not paying attention also doesn't help.:rolleyes:

Looks like you had a great time. Hope to make it up to your place one of these times.

I'm not sure about the Peterbilt/Corvette dash but the whole dozer is defiantly looking rugged! Love the big stack and the worn paint. The cat decals were a big improvement. Have you thought about wire wheeling the tracks and blade?

Supermario
08-14-2016, 02:25 PM
Yes I was thinking about that Craig. I'm missing a couple grousers and the tracks could use a little freshen up. I don't want to do too much though because like you, I'm sold on the natural wear and tear look of it and the fact I hate painting it's all good.
The Pete dash is definitely not right but it looks better than nothing at all for now. Only installed with double sided tape so if and when I find or make something better it'll do for now. :)

Oh, and someone asked how the lowboys did in the yard?.... There Was a few tricky spots and scrubbing could be heard every now and then but drivers adapt, learn the road and wasn't many other hang ups.
