Hi guys :)
I threw the electronics to the still unfinished A40 and made this test drive video.

Are you sure you just didn't shrink a 1:1 machine? It's just so scale looking.

I took the A40 and the 374 excavator outside and thought that I make a little loading and unloading video, but that did not go as planned. First I blew the oil return hose on the 374 (again) and a little bit later the planetary gear unit on the A40 tear down it self:mad::mad::mad: The bogie axles are in a quite side stress when doing tight turns on heavy load. I was doing a tight turn on a concrete surface and I noticed that the bogie wheels tends to "fall under", if you guys know what I mean. And soon after that one wheel with the hub came off. Apparently the planetary gear outer hub is only press fitted:mad:
No real damages done, but I'm a bit worried will the hub stay in place after I push it in, maybe I use some retaining compound.

What I did to fix the planetary gear problem was I tig welded few spots on the end of the drive shaft, so that the planetary gear hub can't move outwards.
I should have realized that when I was making the axles, but I didn't :o

Hey awesome work!! Really!! Do you have a vacuum table? I see the mat material and I know one of the companies uses that material for vacuum fixtuerimg. If so do you like it? Been debating on vacuum vs outsourcing flat parts. Double sided tape has been working but pita to remove!!

Yes I have a vacuum table and at it's best it is great. But when machining a thin materials the mill cutter tends to lift the plate and then it comes loose. By hand you can't move the plate you are machining sideways, but when you lift a corner it's quite easy to detach. I usually run in to problems with under 1mm thicknesses.

Understand, been using wax and that has lifted a couple times also. Went back to using double sided tape. It's a lot more clean up on table plate and part but haven't had any lifting :).
Glad you brought up the turning forces, I would have never thought of sidewall forces under sharp turns. Really great work your doing!!

I think normal solder melting point is about the same, so you have a risk of melting joints.

I got the first 3D print of the bonnet from my buddy Steve. It turn out nicely, all though it is actually a test print to see how it fits to the rest of the machine.
It needs some small adjustments and after that I think it's going to be perfect:)

Hi Ari,
Are you using the M-5H-4 2.5/4 size fitting from SMC or the M3 one's. I am starting my hydraulic system and decided to make my own pump because I am in the US and don't have many options for hydraulics or manufacturers of the micro size products like Germany and France, Plus I like a challenge. I have made my CAD design and want to start soon but was wondering if you could share some pictures from your models on how the pump and motors mount together. I would be happy to message you my drawing if you wanted to take a peak. Any pointers would be much appreciated coming from you.
Thank you,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
the Volvo's dump cylinders have M5 fittings and the steering cylinders have M3 one's.
The Volvo have a direct drive pump with planetary gear, but I haven't took it a part, so I don't know exactly how it's put together.
My Cat 374 has toothed belt drive.
I'd love to see your design.
