I picked up a frsky taranis radio for $279. A lot of heli aerial photography guys use them. I'm not wanting to push anything but this radio works for me and is on par or better than $$$ other systems. Here is a clip of the specs.
 More than I will ever need but for a build like this it is a less expensive idea  .
