How about scribing lines in the oak or whatever with a 1/32 mill cutter instead of burning . I just cut some T and G for a tender for a loco I'm building .100 x .445 which scales out to 1 3/4 x 6 planks . then glueing them all together again for the deck . If you can find out if it's white oak it would be better than red oak . When I get back to building my wooden float I will use alder or ash . But your trailer looks awesome and won't burn like mine would ! Mike
