It may help you if the DX18's gimbal assemblies are the same as the the DX6i's

Interesting, I would assume the same can be done on the 18, I could look into mine later, but I still use it for flying also. Nice to know though

It's similar to that, but I can't recall if I had to split the case or just access a set screw from under the left glued down grip to release the ratchet. There's 4 small rubber plugs you see on back of radio, there for adjusting spring tension on each up/down - left/right travel of each gimbal.

The DX8 is super simple with just one small rubber plug on each side to release/engage the ratchet.
