Depending on how many channels your transmitter has, just throw another receiver back there in the trailer and plug into the channels you're not using on the tractor. You can link as many receivers to a transmitter as you want in parallel. If you want two dump boxes to go up together just plug the ESC into the same port on both receivers and they'll both work together! Also you'll have to get a BEC to power up the receiver back in the trailer unless you have an ESC for a screw drive or something else
Rob
Thanks rob, what I have in mind; drive truck with trailer loaded and park, (have to instal a servo for fifth wheel lock) unlock trailer- switch rx on radio, lower landing legs on trailer, switch rx to truck, pull away, switch back to trailer and lower gooseneck, remove equipment, raise gooseneck, hook back up and drive away. All from a nice lounge chair equipped with cup holder!! No wires to unhook, no connections to make. I'm not having lights (yet) so electrical between truck and trailer isn't issue. If in future I will make some sort of contact points to keep in said lounge chair :) lol!! As my wife listened to what I had in mind, staring at me with a blank stair after I explained ,,, only to reply with I am the poster child of sloth!!! Haha!!

Anyway I changed up suspension after looking on net to figure out how the air ride works. Still need to figure how to attach axle and mock airbag. One step at a time I suppose. Never have a plan just figure it out as I go.

Got the back frame welded. Not without issues, had to scrap the first one because of the cheep welding table I have, not flat, and it had a major slant to the I beams. Compensated for that and this one came out true

Then numbers are good but I forgot to compensate for the darn size of tool!!!!!!! The axle is supposta encompass top and bottom of arms. Have to slide them into axle then the actual axle rod into place. It secures everything together. And yes it's a solid fixed no torsion axle, just the springs. I figure for model it will help keep load from rocking much. Don't know but it seems logical to me?

Hit up the local overpriced parts store for an assortment of springs, trying to figure out the suspension and problem hiding springs,,,,,,,,
Then it hit me like my wife catching me watching the woman's football league, I made up some simple foam cutters
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q750/cooperford/0118F0A4-5643-44D3-8032-3D5C7E4C2F43_zps9zmrhvbl.jpg

I used some shrink wrap but it is too hard and too small, didn't look right, this is what I ended up with, the foam. It looks similar to a bag, still a touch small in diameter but it works. I'm thinking of tacking some m3 threaded rod (cuz I have it) to the frame, passing it through spring and adding a nut on bottom of arm. That way the axle can't extend too far if off ground.

Yes, in the pic above with brass tube I used for cutter, right above the spring with foam is a spring with black shrink on it.
Yes, she will haul some tail!! I may need to build a truck with proper gearing and suspension. The Aeromax is just stock, sleeper chopped off, other than having a high turn motor. Well I'll find out, drive it till something breaks I guess:).

Oh, I don't have shrink bigger than the springs. But messing with it I think the rubber shrink (vinyl, whatever it is) will be too stiff. All I want to do is hide the springs and I think the foam will do.
Cleaned up the arms a bit.

And this is what I had in mind for retaining axles from just dropping out if off ground. It's m3 rod, cut to 1" and then I'll tack it to frame. Will have a washer and locknut on bottom. The hole in aluminum arm is large enough to prevent binding in the little bit of travel. As the arm with spring has a bit of arc in the travel.

Suspension done, I will have to get some weaker springs. After setting all axles up and putting some weights on her, it's apperent the springs are way too stiff. I could almost stand on it and not bottom them out!!!
Now onto welding the sides to main frame. Have to do this so I can attach (or figure out how to) it to wheel frame then start working on the "fun " part :)

Is the m3 bolt binding when you try to cycle the suspension? The trailing arm is trying to moving in a radial motion and the bolt is (probably) holding the arm to linear motion. I might be missing something but that's what i'm seeing.

That pic was just to show underside. The axles will not move in a tilting motion, just up n down. The m3 rod was the hard part, bending and taking in the slight arc of the suspension travel. I think I hit on that before, that's what was tricky. Setting the rod in just the right spot before welding. The holes in the aluminum arms were drilled slightly bigger than rod for welding. Using them as sort of a jig for holding. After tacking into place I removed them and hogged them oblong to allow the threads to pass through travel unimpeded. But the springs were intentionally sourced to be strong as I'm planning on 60# plus. But after all the axles were in place the combined spring strength was realized to be a bit too strong. All the foam is doing is hiding the springs, gives no resistance. Another thing I'm trying to figure is weight distribution. I don't want the load to squat front axle and spring last axle. Before welding I'm going to preload the axle part of trailer. Or use different rate springs front to back. Just don't want it to arc and flex belly down and a$$ up  that's why this part is kind of a critical area.

Mikem, the I beams are almost one inch tall. I did not look into actual dimensions of trailers, just went with what I thought. The panoramic pic has distorted it quite a bit. Tomorrow I will try and get a better one. I know I'm about to run into a problem with the actuators, the top (black plastic housing) is just a bit taller than what the decking will be. One of those things of my redneck engineering, measure after you build it,,, then engineer some more:).

This is what I'm aiming for joe :). I will figure it out somehow whit the actuators I have :). In that video you can see the landing legs and also how the fifth wheel pin is able to slide up when the deck hits the ground. That is also going to be a little bit of challenge. Easy to do but withstand some weight being pulled will be the creative engineering. But if all else fails, yes, she will be a roll-up scissor neck. Many different names, hydraulic folding gooseneck, sissorneck.

Yes putting 1/8" thick bass wood on for decking. But I am going to place a metal stop in frame rails to facilitate the landing legs to stop and allow neck to raise higher. I still don't know if two actuators will be enough power to lift when 60# plus load on. If not I can add one in middle or two. Haides or high water I'm bound to make this work!!!! Also have to figure out the movable kingpin. That might just be gravity to facilitate that or simple spring band. You've done a fantastic job on this so far! We had a military tri-axle foldable goose neck at work for a couple years that required a winch to hook up to. Since we were using it for testing and didn't take it on the highway, we cheated and welded a couple legs to each side so we could use any available tractor to move it. It was a pain because the legs weren't timed, you had to crank each side separately:(.
The king pin was in a tube and was gravity activated. It was a 4" pin (read heavy) vs. a standard 2" pin. I would think you could do the same, maybe add a lite spring to make sure it drops when it needs to. :)

I really haven't thought about much other wood. Reason for that was that I have quite a few sheets of 4" x 24" . For me I think it would look cool if it does get torn up from use. I like the dented and scratched look. It really hides a lot of other imperfections :). I was thinking of milling very small slots in it to appear to be planking. Just rub some stain on and it will penetrate to the grooves, then rub off leaving the appearance of multiple strips.

Thank you!! I didn't even know about the kingpin until a little while ago. The spring I was thinking of is some simple strip of spring steel attached to deck (metal part) and resting on top of pin. Truckmaker, I got to messing with it tonight. Put some temporary stops on the outriggers/landing legs. Lifts the vice I had on it along with four 123 mill blocks. But,,, I don't think the actuators will be able to completely lift the heavy excavator. I think another one in center is needed, maybe two. I'm very close on clearances to put two on each side, side by side. I don't think I could use e-clips on the shafts, would have to change to a set screw to give me a bit more wiggle room. Center has more than enough for one or two side by side, but then more drilling and welding in a rather hard to get to area. It's always gonna be I thought I had enough on the shelf at home but,,, but I need to get more parts !!! But good news is I have the clearances just right for the truck hooking up with fifth wheel. And definitely have to cut some spring steel to add to leaf springs on truck. Squats stock right away. It's one of these circumstances, have truck,,,,, build trailer,,, need to modify truck to suit built trailer. It may just get completely out of hand if a king hauler is needed, extra drive axle, different tranny/motor,,,,,,,,,,, help me I've got to stop!!!!!! Lol!!!! Really need warm weather to get here fast, it will get me outside!! :)

And bit the bullet and got two more actuators if one on each side is not enough power. They are matched very well, and movement is synchronized well. Had some time and motivation last couple days to get some more done. Hopefully soon the weather gets a little warmer and I can set up a somewhat makeshift paint booth to get this and the excavator painted. I have quite a few furnace squirrel cage blowers that I was going to use one for a downdraft fume extractor so I'm not cleaning cat yellow off everything in garage like when I painted the dozer ;). A couple furnace filters and flex duct out window to give the shrubs a tint of cat yellow, hopefully not the siding on house!!!

And I may have underestimated the power of these actuators, the metal that is bent against the aluminum was just a temporary piece to help locate where to put a stop. They bent that rather easily as it's not structural bent and temporary but it also bent the frame ibeams!! I still haven't figured what would be best to limit the trailer raise to help facilitate the neck lift. Some 1:1 use chains or pins. Still a work in progress

Added the mixes to radio for all four actuators. They are independently plugged into 1-4 channels and work by throwing a switch then on a dial so the trailer can be raised/lowered to any position. So I guess next step is to get the I-beams bent back and figure out the stops. Then rear bumper, between wheel frame additions, decking, paint, ect. Thought this project was going to be a "quick" fun build. It has been fun and some burnt brain cells along way!!! :)

Looks like it works good, seems to work a little lifting the dozer. Are you going to have a mechanical lock or let the weight ride on the actuators?
Cooper
03-03-2015, 06:42 PM
Thanks Mario, I have had quite a bit of "thinking" on this one :).
Truckmaker, I really didn't plan on being able to lift the dozer, but it can!! I found out (or it seems that way) that the actuators will lift more than they have the power to hold. They do act like they are working to lift the dozer but they will hold at any given location. When I originally did a load test with two, they would lift but then drift after stopping. Firgilli states they will not be damaged from staling but it's not good if repeatedly used that way. I just got back from the local proctologist hardware store with some small chain and small cable. Picture hanging cable. I figure between the two I can figure something out. I was going to use some metal bent up somehow for strength as a mechanical stop. I am now thinking of going the chain idea as I've seen some 1:1 use chain. And after looking into that the points that can be secured at are the arm shaft that runs from side to side ( probably the most secured part) and the landing leg itself. I'm sure to add some pics of the process. Hope you guys like all the pics, I always like looking at what others do or are thinking of doing :).

Excellent Job, I really like the fact that it pushes down on the other pieces to lift the trailer to height and also acts as a landing gear, idk if that was intentional on your part, or just one of those by mistake accidents that worked in your favor, but none the less. BEAUTIFUL!
Cooper
03-03-2015, 08:09 PM
Yes that was the idea, when loaded the neck goes up first, when empty the trailer lifts first then the neck. The 1:1 work similar or have two separate controls for neck and/or landing legs. But the most of them have that sudden break loose effect of neck lowering, I didn't think I would achieve that but it is basically the same as 1:1 as far as pivot points go.
Thanks!!!

Hey Cooper, can you limit travel via radio endpoint settings?
Cheers, Neil.
Not really, if the travel on the actuators is changed any the landing legs will still move as far as they are allowed. They are the least resistance between landing legs (trailer lift) and gooseneck lifting. And that changes depending on load. With no load on trailer the trailer will lift first then the neck goes up. With load on the neck goes up first then trailer. That's one of the pitfalls I ran into on this build. It looks simple but getting the right locations for pivot points was a challenge. I am working on cutting some 1/2" angle iron for stops. It may be the perfect solution as I have a large area to weld to the ibeams and the 1/2" side can rest against aluminum landing leg flat. More surface area to contact resulting is stronger support and they are only 1.75" so not adding much weight.
Just got done plowing / shoveling ice and snow since 5 this morning. I think I may go groundhog hunting this summer, completely wipe out groundhog Phil and his family!! Three more weeks of winter!! I'll show him three more hollow points of summer!!! I just hope all this snow and ice doesn't melt too fast as I may not get to the river lot till summer!! Some more coffee and hopefully some time to mill those stops for the trailer.
steamer
03-04-2015, 12:21 PM
RW, just one more thing to think about. Right now you're lifting on a hard surface and it's looking real good. But it's going to change on soft ground! the bottom of those legs will go straight in unless you have some surface area to support that much weight. Just thought I'd throw that in before you make the stops. I'm sure you'll need more area to sit on.

Yeah, another thing,, lol!! I haven't milled much on the landing legs yet, or made any type of shoe. Making sure the basics work first. But I do plan on having some sort of shoe. Originally those aluminum legs were configured opposite how they are now. May make new ones as the hole locations are what was needed. Didn't want to get too much into them if they were just learning parts :)
Cooper
03-04-2015, 11:33 PM
This is some of the basic part of what I'm thinking for shoes. I'm trying to have them front heavy so they lay flat when in transport, resting against landing leg. Probably have a set screw in landing leg to keep pin in place. No good clearance for e-clips, and may have to change to set screws on outer pivot arms to increase clearance for shoes. Everything is tight as in no wobble but loose enough for ease of movement.

Yes, I'm usually very careful, self employed, self insured, self medicating (lol!!). I don't really like working with steel prefer alum!! The legs just got me frustrated as I need to make new legs to fit everything the way I want and just took a deep breath and decided to move to something else before the big toolbox had to be opened, the one with hammer and vice grips!!

I did set up my excavator with an 8channel rx. I still have to do some more with travel, limits ect. And the trailer is using that system. In short I haven't really got into it yet. I did change both sticks to centering. Easy to do. So far I think it is a great system, can't beat the functions along with price. I'll try and dig up the info I have on it. I did download the computer program but I haven't set up any models from the computer wizard. But I do have to get on that soon, as I want to have stuff set up and be able to remember what does what before cabin fever.

Now the craziness starts!!! The trailer is 7" wide (same as edges of tires on truck ) with the side extensions adding almost one inch to each side for a total extended width about 8 3/4- 8 7/8" wide almost 9". The excavator will have a good 75% of each track on trailer. I'm estimating 11 of these on each side. To facilitate not having a workforce of elves I decided to make this jig. I will be able to "pinch" the tubes the shafts run through so when not in use they will lay flat against inner frame rail. Originally I was going to make removable ones and add a compartment in frame to house them but these will pull from the imperfections in my welding my eyes are trained on. I thought about cutting holes in them but some of the 1:1 supports are solid so I'm keeping them solid. And only have to drill one hole in top of ibeams for shaft to slide through. Then the decking will hide holes.

Mario, I have been really struggling with the ability to print parts for this, every day I walk by the printer and sigh. Yes it's been all metal and trying to keep up that way. I just wasn't sure if the printer parts would be strong enough, as keeping thin on things and the plastic would have to be thicker to get he strength. The plate steel appearances of parts. Like on the outriggers I have under 1/4" to tuck them in frame with hindge. Hey the wheels are printed!!! Lol!!! Idea for mud flaps and hangers,,,,, I'm pretty sure I was looking a bone inside my finger the other day, re dressed the bandage and the super glue held the skin back together:). Been keeping an eye on it and looks fine. Why is it always the pointer finger? That's the one that touches everything!! And I'm reminded as it is still a bit "touchy". Lol!!! I was using a piece of wire to elevate the plate for a centering lift, it soldered to the brass, I added too much solder.

Yes I'm really happy with them, after the third one I knew how much heat and where to apply. Then they started becoming easy and looking well!! Now if I could get my welding better!!! I had some stay-bright from Harris welding that I used to hard solder the little brass rings to frame, that stuff works great and didn't need too much heat. I made a 1/8" aluminum shaft to align them and rubbed a tiny bit of oil on the alum as a contaminant to help the solder not stick to shaft for assembly. Have to go to Wally-world and when I get back I'll try and post some more pics of progress. I have been soldering the wheel well parts instead of tacking, I think for the strength the frame will bend before any welds break. Everything is a learning curve :).

I really want to blast this whole thing but my cabinet didn't fit the trailer after wheel frame was attached. Might have to get some dry sand and use the big one at work. Mikem , I know I said I was going to use bass work for decking and not going to use alder, but when I went and looked in the wood pile I found some dark oak or maybe some other dark wood that I forgot it had. I'm pretty sure it's oak. Anyway I'm going to use that and was thinking of using a wood burner to make plank lines and still use one solid piece for each side. Am planning on cutting some strips that will be glued on bottom side to act as a clamp to hold wood down. Only steel I have to do is a couple strips to tack between gooseneck arms on topside for someway to attach wood. I want to make that to be able to give somewhat incase neck doesn't raise completely square. This may end up getting some "weathering " for a paint scheme. Figure a flat/ eggshell black, not too shiny.

How about scribing lines in the oak or whatever with a 1/32 mill cutter instead of burning . I just cut some T and G for a tender for a loco I'm building .100 x .445 which scales out to 1 3/4 x 6 planks . then glueing them all together again for the deck . If you can find out if it's white oak it would be better than red oak . When I get back to building my wooden float I will use alder or ash . But your trailer looks awesome and won't burn like mine would ! Mike

Mikem I originally had the idea of milling plank lines in a solid piece and staining the grooves for the appearance of planks. The wood I have is 1/8" thick. Now that you mentioned that I may do that, only thing is I have to tear down the mill some to get the piece to lay flat on table. Might be a good time to clean out underside of slides anyway.

This is what I was thinking about doing for decking. I'm probably going back to using the bass wood, the oak I have is really thin and I was basing my decking on 1/8". The oak is less than that and doesn't allow for a very good elevation lineup for the side boards. I don't have the tools to shave precision numbers off wood. And am trying to have side board extensions housed in middle of deck.

It looks like all these types of trailers leave the frame ibeams exposed and wood decking is flush with top of steel. I did not research enough I guess. ;). Hummm maybe a alteration is in need. Or it may be one of those trailer manufactuers that has gone out of business because of a poor design :). Lol!! I guess I better not name it Great Dane trailer manufactuering ,lol!!! Thanks, I forgot to drill two holes in top deck for wires to be able to pass down neck. Grinding a square hole with dremmel isn't fun. Will be somewhat hidden anyway. Only problem I see is that neck doesn't completely rise to where travel position would be. Pivot points are maxed out to keep actuators in neck. But the landing legs compensate for that be lifting trailer pretty high , enough and then some for truck to hook up. That's why I'm putting battery in axle area to keep neck deck as light as possible. It will still work but not 100% as I wanted. Knew that from early on. Once I get holes cut in for wires and working with new landing legs ( re-made parts can see one on top of cardboard) then I'll start on securing decking. All I'm planning on doing with that is glueing wood strips (side to side) on underside catching ibeams (like a clamp) hopefully done by next week. And have to start painting excavator.

I hope to start getting some descent weather. I don't want to have it down there with no time to get bugs worked out. Need to program some curves for the track motors. Too touchy and too fast. Have to center valves and end stops. Want to add some curves for down boom. And have too big of a pump in it so have to find that right speed vs flow for just the right amount of digging power. I also have the track esc that have a brake setting-want to be able to lock the tracks for a little more break out force instead of having it roll like before. Don't want too much that it will just pull machine. Kind of like what joe has done with setting his up. Only he actually did the math and I will do the redneck way,, dig, adjust, dig , change, mess something up, not know what I'm doing, try the math, fail, dig some more, get mad/frustrated, read something that makes sense wishing I would have done that to start with and then set it up right. :). That way I'll have it working well by the time I'm around someone else that knows :). And have some scratches and paint missing.

I'm also working on side extension boards for the trailer, I glued two layers together hoping to achieve the right arch to match the trailer camber. Do you have a rpm tester(mechanical or electronic)? 4500rpm
And I set the pressure to 18bar, that's plenty of power to dig loose soil with 14mm pistons & the 42lbs model won't move.
And no mix on the valves with the pump, just turn the pump on & leave it to run one constant speed.
Caterpillar controls are bass ackwards, JD controls are best. ;) :D
Cooper
03-19-2015, 09:11 PM
Blahh blahhh blahh JD controls,,,,,, lol!!! I'm a cat man!!!
Yes, I was planning on having the pump run a constant speed. I do have it on a switch for off/on then use one of the dial pots to change speed for different situations. I haven't messed with best pressure yet, I know the cylinders, hoses and such will handle much more pressure than needed. I didn't really understand exactly the flow/pressure of these pumps so figured get the bigger one. They are really great pumps but I should have got the smaller flow one. Couple things I've been wanting to get I don't have, one- rpm sensor and two- a servo tester. Both aren't expensive and I'm bass ackwards when it comes to that stuff, don't hesitate to get some expensive tool but contemplate on the cheep small stuff?!?! Go figure! I'll let ya know where I end up with rpm and pressure /relief. Thanks joe.

Here is a video of a problem I'm encountering.
The valve center has been established and messed with so it's not drifting because of not being centered.
I completely disassembled the cylinder to check piston and shaft seals and replaced with new.
When I reattached the cylinder I worked all air out with temporary lines hooked up into glass of oil, then turned on pump to squirt oil out of lines before attaching to make sure air was purged completely from system.
I am currently hooking another spare cylinder up to valve to completely eliminate the lines, hard lines, and cylinder in question to see if it does same thing. Trying to trouble shoot everything before tearing apart valve. As that's the last thing I want to do, I've never taken one apart and don't know about seals inside or what sizes let alone having a spare if it isn't damaged and I damage it from removal.
In the video you can hear the squealing I'm referring to. I originally thought it was gears between motor and pump but now I'm thinking it is just oil being pumped. When I started it up this morning it was gone but returned. And if I'm getting air sucked into system I would surly think oil would be leaking out also. I have no leaks anywhere, valve, hoses, fittings, cylinder, all dry.
What do you guys think? Valve seal? I'll post up again on results of swapping cylinder out to see if it does same.

I was having a similar problem with the bucket cylinder on my loader and it turned of to be a bad o ring on the piston letting the oil blow by. It wood move but had no power and I had no leaks on the cylinder at that time. Hop this helps
Cooper
03-21-2015, 04:30 PM
That's what I was thinking originally, I replaced piston seal and it still does it. In the process of using a different cylinder to see if it does it with that one. I didn't check piston , possibly I made a mistake in the manufacturing of the piston. But when I had it apart I worked the piston in the cylinder and it created a lot of resistance when line was sealed so I think the cylinder is good. ??
steamer
03-21-2015, 04:36 PM
Cooper as a quick guess I would say it's the piston seal or o'ring. Take the cylinder apart and my bet is you'll find the culprit. If it was a valve seal you'd have to push all the oil out of the cylinder back through the valve to the tank. You're not getting that much resistance so it's a short bypass meaning some where in the cylinder.
Also pretty sure it's the bypass valve that's making all the squealing noise too. That's why the pitch changes with speed, it's the volume of oil going through it that resonates the relief spring and ball!

I had the same issue with my 4200.
it would do the same as yours dose in the video. I spent ages on the valve , centring it and scratching my head.
I had a spare new ram , swapped it out and problem gone, stripped old ram and found the seal worn and letting oil flow around it, ram would move but under load it had no power.
cheers andy

Ok I swapped stick cylinder out and used the one I had for the failed dump project. No way was I going to hold that from extending or retracting by hand. And when valve centered I couldn't move it. So thanks for the input guys, I am pretty sure it's not the valve. No on to next thing, maybe I had used the wrong piston to start with. I know I made a few to try and dial in the right size. Not like I could find directions on what diameter piston to make :). It's not much but if it's off a few hundredths it may be just what's going on. Not sealing against cylinder inner wall or piston groove. Might even make a double ring piston this time if I have room. I doubt that I would have honed the cylinder too much. Kind of funny thing as I remember adding a couple washers to the end of piston to act as a stop so stick arm didn't bottom out on boom. And was supposta make new one to eliminate washers. Well I am now. Tear apart cylinder again and have to get the calipers out and check what size piston I have in there. I do believe I wrote down dimensions on the is project. Never wrote anything down (that wasn't on dry erase board) when I built dozer, regret that :).

My pump sorta sounds like with no valve movement, but my pressure is set much lower than yours. You're at 350psi, I'm at 252psi.
Cooper
03-21-2015, 06:22 PM
Combination of two things I think. Piston is not right size to seal well with ring. And the piston is allowing oil to flow from bolt holding it on, and then between piston id and shaft that piston slides over. Basically the bolt holding it on was loose and those washers are bad. And I m pretty sure I grabbed one of the wrong pistons when assembling.
Cooper
03-21-2015, 07:37 PM
Ok put the cylinder back together with original piston, this time I removed the two washers I had on end and replaced with washer with rubber backing. Will prevent any leakage from bolt hole through piston. And it works now!! And to think I was thinking of getting into that valve assembly. Thanks for the input guys, helped a lot!!!

I got the trailer rx/tx working and fail safes set so I was onto the dumptruck to change out turnigy radio gear to my frsky. Trying to streamline things with really only having two radios. Instead of unhooking everything I figured I would just work on one at a time. When it came time for the axle locking servo I didn't realize it was under stress and was playing with settings trying to get it on the switch I wanted. Smelled something, yup that unforgettable magic smoke smell. Next thing is see is the magic smoke!! That darn little servo was cooking!! Really cooked it melted casting, and was smoking pretty good for a micro servo. Before I could disconnect things I burnt both bec's on the motor esc and dump bed esc!! Don't need the dump esc to have a bec anyway. But had another hk $10 esc so had to get solder stuff out and redo what I had to. Took all the linkages off things on the second go and now I only have to get the three axle locker cables set for servo throw and should be done with dumper. (Few little things, mud flaps,,,). Moral of story, unhook linkages, ect when installing new stuff :(. I knew that just didn't do it!! Also moved the gas tanks back about 1/4" because fron tires would rub when turned whole way. But have everything set with fail safes (model match) so switching from one to another is just staying put in the lounge chair (again with beverage holder for those weekends down working at river with cold beer!!)

Will do soon as I may be ban to the garage for a while :). I had to move some material today with skid steer and home is just a short distance so I dropped off a small pile of cracker dust (screenings) in the garage. Some play time !! As long as it doesn't turn into a giant litter box- will have to get the air soft rc tank out if the cats want to dig in my sandbox!!

The combo pictures look good, I guess I didn't realize how short that tractor is. Not sure how you'll get it to turn when a 1:1 that short doesn't like to turn with the rears unlocked. Will the dozer fit on the trailer?

well how are the helper springs working? you still squating?
Cooper
03-24-2015, 06:20 PM
Springs are about perfect for the excavator load, they aren't bottomed but sprung. But when unloaded the truck is pretty rigid.
I'm going to wait till I can get outside on some real ground to see how it turns. If the trailer is enough weight unloaded I may unlock both axles and see how it works in the dirt. Thinking it will get stuck like before. But if I have to I can put the locker axles in. I didn't want to use them for this but if I don't I'll probably have them for years by keep saying I'm saving them for something else.

Oops, it was a mess up not big mark, but bigford or mark!! Got both duhh:(. I tried to slow things down with limiting amount of valve travel (end points). Have to set some expo in the swing yet to smooth the initial part out. I oblonged the holes in the swing motor mount to get a little tighter mesh. That may just be a temporary solution and cause more wear.

My "go fast" boat. She has reached 115+ mph. Twins, 400 amps running 10s , 42volts, 2000mah with a 3-4min runtime. Melt downs are what limits runtime but after four 1/8 mile passes batteries are empty. She isn't fuel efficient as the trucks :)

I don't have many videos, this was one that was just over 100mph. She needed the struts moved some to get rid of the bounce. The river is about 175yards wide so the rooster tail is more than 150' long!! These videos don't do it any justice, it is a sight to actually see. Some guys have some new jet skis all hopped up and are kind of Richard knoggen's towards everyone , it's funny they have to admit defeat by a little toy boat that beats their fast jet skis. So far it's the fastest thing on river by far.

I've always had an interest in the RC stuff, years ago we got a Riverlot and ended up having my neighbor into RC stuff too!! Couldn't ask for a better neighbor. It started with him having a boat, then me getting one, then him a faster one, then me a faster one, ect,,, then he showed me garden trucking and it just ballooned into what you see now. :).
Modelman, it's guys like you that have paved the way for me to enjoy the boats and other stuff too!! Appreciate your interest and would love to sit down with you and Justus listen. I know your sight is going but I'm sure you have many many insights into past and present fun times!! I will definitely be putting the MADD Catt into action more this summer, with some good quality and audio videos. The hull has not been compromised (yet) Spent most of a winter reinforcing with carbon and Kevlar to take the 100mph+ airborne re-entries onto concrete water. Spinning those props around 50k. I got a top speed of 119 but don't have the data or picture proof to back it up. My goal was 125mph. It's been a struggle to get anything over 120. You know, everything has to line up perfect, water, wind, temp, not to mention the hours of testing, tweaking, prop work, burnt esc, motors ect!! Took me about 2 months to get her to a reliable and steady 110 pass as the normal "have fun" just go out and run. (With the right water). At $350 a pop per motor I really do take care and try to eliminate all potential problems but pushing the edge usually ends up costing:(. I'm looking at some lmt motors for this year but the $$ is hard to part with for them. That boat acronym of another thousand, need about two hundred more for those motors!!!!

Cooper-you are so right-I do have a lot of good stories and memories that will probably never be shared. Throughout my career I tried to mentor the new boaters that were coming into the hobby. I also built and sold R/C boats and I was always giving advice on set-ups, props, fuel, radios, etc. The funny thing about that is when I would get someone running good they would always come looking to beat me. A few did-most didn't. I guess that's competitive racing. I don't want to get your thread off topic so why don't you start a thread in the boat section with some of your videos. I have considered that and maybe finding some of my old pictures and posting them but there doesn't seem to be much interest in that section.

In my opinion modelman you'll never get my thread off topic, it's a comstruction site company and the guys talk,,, about a lot of different things ;) lol!!! Don't know how far members travel as that event will be my first meeting of others.
I wasn't sure if a d11 was ever hauled intact, I know they usually get delivered by about three trucks, blade, main body, and tracks or something like that. Then built onsite. I found a video that has one rolling in by one truck in one piece. The trailer isn't a gooseneck but on heck of a load and that sway would be making me nervous. Would love to one day see that roll into my land. (Only needing about 2million and some land to stockpile).

Had some time to start cleaning up the backyard pit. Digging some of the smaller rocks out so the edges of pit can be expanded. Figure a little bit here and there and the wife will not notice unless she looks at pics from past :). This hobby has enabled all facets of my creativity to be used, hiding toys, money, tools, cleaning up house so new toys can be hidden, slowly expanding the pit with smoke and mirrors,,, ect. Only drawback was to keep the garage for myself (toys) and not use it for parking cars in I had to clean snow and warm car when it snowed or was cold. And I really had to work for that this past year!!!!

I'm going to make a regular dirt blade for her, the blade on now was based off the 72yard coal carry blade. I think a normal blade is around 54yards. Will but the rock guard on and try to make it like the 1:50 model I based it on.
And some work with the human powered excavator (shovel) and digging bar. After about 15 minuets I really thought that some physical work would be good to get the extra 10lbs of winter weight off, at 20 minutes I really thought about going and getting the backhoe or skidsteer. :). Lol!!!

Ugg this little camera was a pain in butt!! Somehow I had some videos on the memory card and it asked if I wanted to update the camera, so I clicked that. Must have hit the wrong camera because an hour later and it was flashing red lights, saying update failed. Kept trying and then unplugged it, figured I would pull battery and it would reset. Nope somehow it was weighting the update to the memory card!?!? To be honest I had no idea of what I was doing. About another hour I got it figured out, I think. But wiped the card and had two other cool truck and ex videos. Maybe they are on computer somewhere. It's windows 8 and I don't like it as I don't know where all the hidden icons/places to find are. Guess I just need to screw up a few more things then I'll know how to use it better. Or should I say what not to do. That's how computers and I work, I don't know how to get stuff just keep learning how to not do something!!!

Some progress on the new dozer blade. I'm basing it off the 1:50 scale model I have. After looking around on net the d11r does have a blade similar to the toy. A little bit of flat on top where the rock guard is. My shop book from cat had a diagram of different blade. No matter what it's not gonna be perfect but more of the dirt blade and not the coal carry blade.
